Spotlight On: Classic Wing Chairs
The classic wing chair is being reinterpreted for today in fresh fabrics and silhouettes. Versatile linen is leading the way for covers, and up and coming colors include, orange, amethyst, sophisticated citron and still-important blue in all shades.
These are some of the trends that will be evident at the Fall High Point Market in the showroom of Hooker Furniture's Sam Moore, a leading chair specialist with an emphasis on cover-to-frame customization. "Wing chairs are a big fashion statement right now," said Sandi Teague, director of merchandising for Hooker Upholstery.

Up and coming vibrant colors
Known for its custom finishes, Sam Moore will be showcasing four new finishes in a display of chairs in vintage linen covers that will allow the finishes to pop. The finishes include Weathered, a dark honey antiqued finish; Patina, a dark gray with waxy hang up, Ochre, a burnished antique orange suitable for a statement piece in a loft or condo and Truffle, a classic gray.
In fabric colors, blues of all shades including teal, turquoise and spa blue remain important, while amethyst, salmon, orange and tangerine are up-and-coming.

Building on the success of its Accommodations sectional program, Sam Moore is introducing Accommodations Too, a sectional program for smaller living spaces with three different arm styles available including a track arm, scoop arm and transitional arm. An important footprint in the program is a corner wedge and armless sleeper loveseat with full mattress, perfect for small spaces.
"Wing chairs are branching out from traditional styling to include clean transitional and cottage styles."
Another key trend in the Sam Moore showroom is an abundance of linen covers, which will make up about 10% of the company's new fabric selections. "The push in linen is part of the popular French laundry look," Teague said. "Linen is appealing because of its versatility. Linen can go from urban to coastal to mountain lodge very easily and from a traditional suburban home to a vacation home." Updated and modern linens, along with linen prints and linens in the upscale colors of charcoal, earth and metal, will be evident at Sam Moore.
